Frequently Asked Questions

PrivateNotes uses end-to-end encryption to secure your messages. When you create a note, it's encrypted in your browser before being sent to our server. The decryption key is included in the link fragment (after the #), which is never sent to our servers. After the note is read once, it's permanently deleted.

Yes! We use AES-256-GCM encryption, which is military-grade encryption. The encryption key never leaves your browser - it's only in the link you share. Even we cannot read your messages.

After a note is read once, it's immediately and permanently deleted from our database. The link will no longer work, and there's no way to recover the message.

You can add an optional password to your note. The recipient will need both the link AND the password to view the message. This provides an extra layer of security.

If a note isn't read before its expiration time, it's automatically deleted. You can choose expiration times of 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.
